Day +151 Tues
Hi everyone. Here we are on Tuesday afternoon and I’m starting early in a quiet 5mins, while Ella has a snooze.
We had a good night last night actually. Ella was awake a few times but no serious tummy ache. When Dr Wynn came he was pleased with her and has challenged her to be out of bed today, and even to have a short trip around the hospital….maybe to the restaurant….with us. Also he was asking if anybody had a birthday this week. Of course Ella pretended not to know, so he then challenged her to write down all our family birthdays before he comes again! We haven’t done that yet, but we have been out of bed and sat on Mummy’s knee for a while, and we have done a few leg exercises with the physios. She didn’t want to sit in ‘the chair’ so they utterly surprised her by operating her bed into almost a chair position. There is no escape!
Muriel came at the end of their session to work on a birthday card for Mummy, so that seemed to be a good time for Sally to go for her run and me to do my walk. The park is only at the end of the road and Sally was there in no time at all. There is a Nero coffee shop opposite, so while she was lapping the park I popped in there and got us 2 coffees so that we could recover on a park bench. ( actually I can’t tell a lie…..I didn’t need to sit down as I’d only just walked from the hospital. ) Needless to say it started to rain at this point, but it didn’t matter. We enjoyed the fresh air. Then we began ‘people watching’ and soon homed in to some very strange men lurking around ( well they seemed to be lurking). In fact one was relieving himself, in full view of everyone. Don’t worry….Sally will always have her matronly chaperone with her, and the park is really busy with cyclists, joggers and plenty of walkers using it as a cut through, onto Oxford Rd.
I must tell you about the latest night time adventure! As you know Sally went to the ‘dormitory’ for the night and had settled down to sleep when the door was unlocked, and in walked an auxiliary nurse with a man. Sally pretended to be asleep at first, but then the nurse asked Sally if she was a lady or a man, because she was looking for accom. for the man and had heard there was a spare bed in our room!!!!!! They beat a hasty retreat when she realised she was in the wrong room, but it was VERY wrong for that mishap to happen. When the Family Care lady came, to see how we are getting on, she was just as angry and set off to find the culprit, because there is supposed to be a strict protocol about keeping the women’s room keys and the men’s room keys separate! The outcome of it has been that the locks have all been changed. Honestly, what a ‘to do’!!! The thing is though, if there was proper accom in the first place this sort of thing wouldn’t happen, and couples/families/friends would be able to share in peace.
Well it is now 8.00pm and we are climbing the walls in one way and another. Sally because she is as stiff as a poker, me because I ‘m trying to connect us to a TV channel through the computer and it won’t accept the password and Ella because she is too hot. Anyway Radio Lollipop has just been to leave us some pictures to colour in…it’s great to see that they have moved over to the new site too. They do such a lot of voluntary good work don’t they?
We are going to finish now for today and then Sally can be horizontal! I expect she will feel less stiff tomorrow? But what do they say? No pain,no gain?
Night night, lots of love and thanks for your prayers and loving concern.

Well done Ella. I hope you had a good snuggle with mummy. I know you will have done and keep up those exercises. I like the sound of your bed maybe you could trick Dr Wynn, if he has to sit on it because there’s nowhere else while he’s looking at your family birthdays would it fold far enough to make a Dr Wynn Sandwich?! Obviously you’d have to let him go again but wouldn’t that be funny?!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the locks on the Dorm have been changed, that must have been scary to say the least. Annette stay on that orange box, it is shocking (shared accommodation not you!).
We’re thinking of you all as always with extra special thoughts on Friday and Saturday (why would that be again? - Just joking) Have the best birthdays you can enjoy your selves and have a fab party Ella.
Love the Waites
